In which city did the Backstreet Boys form in 1993?

The story behind the answer

The Backstreet Boys formed in Orlando, Florida, in 1993.

The group was assembled by manager Lou Pearlman, who held auditions in the Orlando area. The original lineup consisted of Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean, and Kevin Richardson. Richardson joined after the other four members had been selected, completing the quintet.

Orlando was an important center for American boy-band development during the 1990s. The group began performing locally before signing with Jive Records and building a major international audience. Their first album was released internationally in 1996, while their US debut followed in 1997.

The Backstreet Boys are sometimes confused with *NSYNC because both groups emerged from the Florida pop scene and worked with Jive Records. However, *NSYNC formed in Orlando in 1995, two years after the Backstreet Boys. The city is therefore a shared origin point, but the groups formed at different times and had different lineups.
