Answer
Philadelphia
Answer
Philadelphia
Delegates signed the United States Constitution in Philadelphia in 1787.
The Constitutional Convention met at the Pennsylvania State House, now called Independence Hall, from May through September 1787. The delegates signed the completed Constitution on September 17, although ratification by the states was still required before it could take effect.
Philadelphia was already a major political center. The Continental Congress had met there during much of the Revolutionary era, and the Declaration of Independence had been adopted in the same city in 1776. These connections make Philadelphia a major focal point for America250 commemorations.
The Constitution created the framework of the federal government, including Congress, the presidency, and the federal judiciary. It replaced the weaker Articles of Confederation after nine states ratified it.
