In which California city was George Lucas born?
Answer
Modesto
Answer
Modesto
George Lucas was born in Modesto, California, on May 14, 1944. The Central Valley city was his hometown and strongly influenced his early interests before he became one of Hollywood’s most influential filmmakers.
Lucas grew up in Modesto and became fascinated by comic books, science fiction, and the Flash Gordon serials. He also spent much of his teenage years interested in cars and underground racing, an experience that later influenced the fast-paced racing culture and mechanical detail found throughout his films.
A serious car accident shortly before his high-school graduation changed Lucas’s direction. After surviving the crash, he moved away from his dream of becoming a professional race-car driver and pursued filmmaking instead. He studied cinematography at the University of Southern California, where he made the short film THX 1138 4EB.
Modesto is sometimes confused with San Francisco or Los Angeles because Lucas became closely associated with California’s film industry. However, he was born in Modesto, while much of his professional career developed in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area.
