The song’s recording credits list Rough Customer in Brooklyn alongside Kitty Committee in Los Angeles. This two-city studio history reflects the remote and collaborative working methods used during the making of Folklore. Swift and her collaborators assembled songs across different locations rather than relying on one traditional studio setting.
The Brooklyn location is easy to confuse with the Los Angeles studio also listed in the credits. Kitty Committee is the Los Angeles facility, while Rough Customer identifies the New York City recording location. Mixing and mastering were separate stages handled elsewhere by different personnel.
The location does not mean that the song is about Brooklyn. Its lyrics use imagined characters and late-summer imagery rather than presenting a literal account of the studio where the recording was made.
