In which band did Butch Trucks play drums?

Butch Trucks played drums in The Allman Brothers Band, the influential Southern rock group he helped found.

Born Claude Hudson Trucks in Jacksonville, Florida, Trucks joined Duane and Gregg Allman’s new group in 1969. He shared the drum role with Jai Johanny “Jaimoe” Johansson, creating the band’s distinctive two-drummer sound. Trucks supplied a powerful, steady rock foundation while Jaimoe added jazz-influenced accents and rhythmic improvisation.

The band’s breakthrough live album, At Fillmore East, was released in 1971 and is widely regarded as a landmark of live rock recording. Trucks remained with the Allman Brothers through multiple reunions and lineup changes until the group’s final disbandment in 2014.

A common mix-up is confusing Butch Trucks with his nephew Derek Trucks, who was a guitarist in the Allman Brothers and later co-founded the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Butch was the drummer and a founding member.
