The United States Semiquincentennial, or America’s 250th anniversary, will take place in 2026.
The celebration marks 250 years since the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence. That landmark action occurred on July 4, 1776, making July 4, 2026, the anniversary’s central date.
The term “semiquincentennial” means a 250th anniversary. Other names include sestercentennial, bisesquicentennial, and quarter millennium, but America250 is the principal public branding for the national observance.
The United States previously celebrated its bicentennial in 1976, marking 200 years since independence. Its tricentennial is scheduled for 2076.
