The United States will celebrate its 250th anniversary, known as America250, in 2026.
The anniversary marks 250 years since the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Because 1776 plus 250 equals 2026, the principal national observances are scheduled for that year, especially around July 4.
Congress created the United States Semiquincentennial Commission in 2016 to help coordinate the commemoration. America250 is the public-facing name associated with the nationwide celebration, while semiquincentennial is the formal anniversary term.
This anniversary is distinct from the 1976 Bicentennial, which marked 200 years, and the 1926 Sesquicentennial, which marked 150 years. The 2026 commemoration also differs from the anniversary of the Constitution, which was signed in 1787.
