In what year was Tiffany & Co. founded?
Answer
1837
Answer
1837
Tiffany & Co. was founded in 1837.
Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young opened a stationery and fancy-goods store in New York City on September 14, 1837. The business began at 259 Broadway with a small advance of $1,000 borrowed from Tiffany’s father. It did not start as the jewelry powerhouse most people picture today; jewelry and luxury goods became increasingly central as the company grew.
Tiffany took control after the early partnership evolved, and the company eventually adopted the name Tiffany & Co. In 1845, it published the Blue Book, widely regarded as the first direct-mail catalog in the United States devoted to luxury goods. The firm’s reputation expanded further after Tiffany acquired important gemstones and became known in the press as the “Diamond Kings.”
The wrong options often reflect later milestones rather than the founding year. Tiffany introduced its signature engagement-ring setting in 1886, and the distinctive Tiffany Blue color is associated with the company’s 19th-century identity. The year 1837 is also commemorated in the name “1837 Blue.”
