In what year was the Ferrari F40 launched?

The Ferrari F40 was launched in 1987. Ferrari revealed the car on 21 July 1987 at the Civic Centre in Maranello, making it one of the most dramatic supercar debuts of its era.

The F40 was created to celebrate Ferrari’s 40th anniversary and followed the 288 GTO as the company’s new performance flagship. Enzo Ferrari personally approved the project, and it became the last Ferrari automobile introduced during his lifetime and the final Ferrari he personally signed off on.

Engineer Nicola Materazzi developed the mechanical package, while Pininfarina shaped the body under the direction of Aldo Brovarone. Lightweight materials such as Kevlar, carbon fibre, aluminium and polycarbonate helped keep the car focused on speed. Its twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V8 delivered startling performance for the period.

The F40 is often confused with later cars because production continued after its launch. The standard road car was introduced in 1987, while competition derivatives, including the F40 LM and F40 Competizione, extended the model’s story into the 1990s.
