In what year was The Clash's album 'London Calling' released?

The story behind the answer

The Clash's album 'London Calling' was released in 1979.

The album arrived in the United Kingdom on 14 December 1979 through CBS Records. It was the Clash's third studio album and was released as a double LP, an unusually generous format that the band persuaded CBS to sell for roughly the price of a single album.

Recorded at Wessex Sound Studios in London during August and November 1979, the album marked a major expansion of the band's musical palette. Alongside punk rock, it drew on reggae, ska, rockabilly, rhythm and blues, lounge jazz, pop and hard rock. Producer Guy Stevens encouraged a famously energetic and unconventional recording atmosphere.

A common source of confusion is the 1980 date: the album was released in the United States and Canada in January 1980, but its original UK release was in December 1979. The title track preceded the album as a single on 7 December 1979.
