The cast reunion special was released in 2020. Titled The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion, it brought much of the original cast together for a retrospective celebrating the sitcom’s legacy.
The special premiered on HBO Max in November 2020, several months after the show’s 30th anniversary. The original series had debuted on NBC in September 1990, making the reunion a timely celebration of three decades of cultural impact.
The program combined conversations, personal memories, archival material, and a return to the show’s familiar living-room set. Will Smith hosted the gathering, which included surviving principal cast members such as Alfonso Ribeiro, Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Joseph Marcell, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Daphne Maxwell Reid.
One especially discussed moment involved Janet Hubert, the original Aunt Vivian, appearing alongside Smith. Their conversation addressed the circumstances surrounding her departure from the sitcom and their long-running public tension. The reunion is sometimes confused with a virtual cast gathering on Smith’s series Will From Home, which appeared earlier in 2020.
