In what year was the California Route 66 Museum established in Victorville?

The story behind the answer

The California Route 66 Museum in Victorville was established in 1995.

The museum occupies the former Red Rooster Café building in Victorville, California. Its exhibits focus on the history and culture of Route 66, including roadside businesses, vehicles, signs, travel memorabilia, and the changing communities along the highway.

Victorville became an important preservation location because the city sits on the historic route between the San Bernardino area and the Mojave Desert. The museum helps interpret that California section for visitors who may be following the old alignment rather than Interstate 15 or Interstate 40.

The museum is one of two California museums devoted specifically to Route 66 history; the other is the Route 66 “Mother Road” Museum in Barstow. Together, they document the road’s commercial culture and the preservation movement that grew after Route 66 was decommissioned.
