Disney’s animated film Frozen was released in 2013.
The film had its world premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on November 19, 2013, before its general theatrical release in the United States on November 27, 2013. It was produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures.
Frozen adapts ideas from Hans Christian Andersen’s 1844 fairy tale “The Snow Queen,” but its plot, characters, and setting differ substantially from the original story. The finished film focuses on Anna and Elsa’s sisterly bond rather than on a direct retelling.
Frozen became a major cultural and commercial success and led to a sequel, Frozen II, in 2019. The first film also helped revive global interest in Disney’s modern animated musicals.
