In what year was C.S. Lewis born in Belfast?
Answer
1898
Answer
1898
C.S. Lewis was born in 1898 in Belfast, Ireland. His birth name was Clive Staples Lewis, and he was born on 29 November to Albert James Lewis and Florence Augusta Lewis.
Lewis grew up in a Protestant family with his older brother, Warren. The family home, Little Lea, had a large library, and Lewis later described reading as a major influence on his imagination. His childhood interest in mythology and stories helped shape his later fiction.
People sometimes confuse Lewis’s birth year with the dates of his major books. The first Narnia novel appeared more than five decades later, in 1950. Lewis lived through both world wars and died in 1963.
Belfast remains an important part of Lewis’s biography. He spent his early years there before moving to England for education. His Northern Irish background, classical education, Christian beliefs, and love of medieval literature all became recurring parts of his intellectual identity.
