Answer
1960
In what year was Arctic Cat founded? Arctic Cat was founded in 1960.
The company was formed by Edgar Hetteen, a snowmobile pioneer who had previously helped establish Polaris. After leaving that business, Hetteen created a new venture in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. It initially operated under the name Polar Manufacturing before becoming Arctic Enterprises, the corporate predecessor of the Arctic Cat brand.
Arctic Cat’s early history is tied to the rapid growth of recreational snowmobiling in the 1960s. The company developed snowmobiles for trail riding, utility work, and competition, helping make northwestern Minnesota a major center of snowmobile production. The brand later endured bankruptcy in 1982; a successor called Arctco resumed production, and the company returned to the Arctic Cat name in 1996.
The date can be confused with later milestones, such as the launch of the Boss Cat line in 1970 or the 1980s reorganization. Those events changed the company’s structure or products, but they did not change its founding year: 1960.
