Walt Disney’s animated film Peter Pan first premiered in 1953.
The film was produced by Walt Disney Productions and adapted primarily from J. M. Barrie’s stage play and prose story. It follows Peter Pan, Wendy Darling, her brothers, Tinker Bell, and Captain Hook through a musical version of Neverland.
Peter Pan was the 14th animated feature produced by Disney. It arrived during the studio’s postwar period, following films such as Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland. Its songs, flying scenes, and colorful character designs helped make it one of Disney’s best-known adaptations of Barrie’s story.
The film is often confused with later Peter Pan productions, including the 2002 sequel Return to Never Land and the 2023 live-action film Peter Pan & Wendy. Those are separate releases. The 1953 animated feature is also distinct from the 1954 Broadway musical version, which starred Mary Martin.
