The Mini Countryman first went on sale in 2010. It was Mini’s first crossover SUV and the marque’s first five-door model of the BMW era, expanding the range beyond the smaller Hatch and Clubman.
The production Countryman was unveiled at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, and UK models went on sale on 18 September 2010. Its larger body, increased ground clearance and available ALL4 all-wheel drive gave it a more practical and versatile role than the conventional Mini hatchback.
The Countryman’s name was not entirely new: the original classic Mini had also used “Countryman” for an estate-style model. That historical connection sometimes causes confusion, because the modern Countryman is a crossover rather than a small wood-trimmed estate. It also should not be confused with the later Paceman, a related three-door crossover coupé.
