What company produced the Mini from 1988 to 2000?

The Rover Group produced the Mini from 1988 to 2000. By then, the car had passed through several corporate identities, but Rover Group was the organization responsible for its final production era.

The company emerged in 1986 when British Leyland was renamed the Rover Group. The classic Mini continued to be built, primarily at Longbridge in Birmingham, while Rover developed new models and refreshed the aging small car with special editions and updated equipment.

BMW acquired the Rover Group in 1994. BMW retained the Mini name when it broke up most of the group in 2000, allowing production of the classic Mini to continue briefly before the final car left Longbridge on 4 October 2000. The new BMW-developed MINI followed in 2001.

British Leyland was the preceding manufacturer, ending its involvement in 1986. BMW owned the Rover Group during its final years, but the usual production-era answer for 1988–2000 is Rover Group, not BMW. MG Motor did not produce the classic Mini during this period.
