The Kate Spade Saturday line launched in 2013. It was introduced as a more accessible, casual lifestyle line connected to Kate Spade New York.
The brand announced plans to launch Kate Spade Saturday in Japan in February 2013, and the line debuted during the first quarter of that year in Japan and the United States. Its name referred to the relaxed, energetic feeling associated with the weekend rather than to a single product category.
Kate Spade Saturday offered apparel, handbags, accessories, home goods, and other lifestyle products. The line was designed to reach younger shoppers and customers who liked Kate Spade’s colorful, optimistic style but were not yet ready for the main collection’s prices.
The line was relatively short-lived. Kate Spade & Company announced in January 2015 that it planned to close the Kate Spade Saturday and Jack Spade retail stores, making 2013 the launch year rather than 2014 or 2012.
