In what year did Stanley Kubrick die?

The story behind the answer

Stanley Kubrick died in 1999. He died on March 7, 1999, at age 70, at his home in Childwickbury, Hertfordshire, England. The cause was a heart attack in his sleep.

Kubrick’s death came only days after he screened a final cut of Eyes Wide Shut for his family and the film’s principal stars. Eyes Wide Shut, starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, was released posthumously in 1999 and became the director’s final feature film. Kubrick had been working on it for several years before completing the production.

Kubrick was born in New York City on July 26, 1928, and began his career as a photographer before becoming a filmmaker. His directing career lasted from 1951 to 1999 and included films such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, and Dr. Strangelove. A common mix-up is confusing his death year with the futuristic setting or title of 2001: A Space Odyssey, released in 1968. His funeral was held privately at Childwickbury five days after his death.
