In what year did Richard Feynman die?
Answer
1988
Answer
1988
Richard Feynman died in 1988. He died on February 15, 1988, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 69, after complications from cancer and a ruptured duodenal ulcer.
Feynman had been diagnosed with liposarcoma in 1978 and later developed Waldenström macroglobulinemia. Several operations were performed, but his health deteriorated during the final years of his life. He declined dialysis when kidney failure followed the ulcer.
His death came less than two years after his prominent work on the Rogers Commission, which investigated the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. Many readers also associate his final years with his unsuccessful attempt to visit Tuva, a journey later described in Tuva or Bust!
A common mix-up is confusing the year of his death with the year of publication of his posthumous memoir What Do You Care What Other People Think?, which appeared in 1988.
