In what year did Mail Boxes Etc. stores become known as The UPS Store in the United States?

The story behind the answer

Mail Boxes Etc. stores became known as The UPS Store in the United States in 2003.

United Parcel Service acquired Mail Boxes Etc., Inc. in 2001. Mail Boxes Etc. operated franchised retail centers offering services such as shipping, packing, mailbox rentals, copying and printing. After the acquisition, UPS began aligning the American locations more closely with its own brand.

The rebranding did not happen worldwide at the same time. In the United States, many Mail Boxes Etc. locations changed their names to The UPS Store in 2003. In other countries, the Mail Boxes Etc. name continued to be used, which is a common source of confusion when comparing the chain internationally.

The UPS Store remains a franchise network rather than a collection of ordinary UPS delivery depots. Its stores provide retail business services, while UPS also operates its separate package-delivery network.
