Sam Meineke founded the Meineke auto-service franchise in 1972.
The company began as an automotive exhaust and muffler business. Its early focus reflected a common vehicle-maintenance need: replacing worn exhaust components and mufflers. The brand then expanded its services and locations through franchising, becoming known as Meineke Car Care Centers.
Modern Meineke centers may provide services including brake work, oil changes, exhaust repair, tire service, and other routine maintenance, although offerings can differ by location. The business therefore developed from a specialized muffler concept into a broader automotive-service franchise.
Meineke is often confused with Midas because both brands have long histories in franchised vehicle repair. Midas began earlier, in 1956, while Meineke’s founding date is 1972. Jiffy Lube is another separate automotive chain with a different origin and emphasis on quick oil-change service.
