LinkedIn added pronoun fields to profiles in 2021. The feature was introduced as part of the platform’s effort to help members express their gender identity and make professional interactions more inclusive.
LinkedIn began rolling out the option in select countries in 2021. Members could display pronouns such as she/her, he/him, or they/them beside their name, and in some cases could enter custom pronoun combinations. The feature was not immediately available in every market or language.
The field is optional, so its absence does not indicate anything about a member’s identity. Another common mix-up is treating the feature as a universal launch: LinkedIn’s rollout was gradual, and availability depended on region and language. By 2023, LinkedIn said more than 20 million members had shared pronouns on their profiles.
