In what year did Green Day release the punk rock album Dookie?

The story behind the answer

Green Day released the punk rock album Dookie in 1994.

The album was released on 1 February 1994 by Reprise Records and became the band's major-label breakthrough. It was Green Day's third studio album, following 1,000 Hours and Kerplunk!, which had established the group within the underground punk scene.

Dookie includes the singles “Longview,” “Basket Case,” and “When I Come Around.” Producer Rob Cavallo helped shape its bright, tightly edited sound, while the songs combined fast punk arrangements with accessible melodies and lyrics about boredom, anxiety, and alienation.

The record became a major commercial success and helped bring California punk into the mainstream during the 1990s. It eventually sold more than 20 million copies worldwide and won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Performance in 1995. It is sometimes confused with Insomniac, Green Day's next studio album, which followed in 1995 and had a darker, heavier sound.
