In what year did Georgia O'Keeffe make her permanent move to New Mexico?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe moved permanently to New Mexico in 1949.

She had first visited New Mexico in 1917 and returned repeatedly during the 1920s and 1930s. The region became a central source of imagery, including desert landscapes, adobe buildings, crosses, bones, and the distinctive cliffs around Ghost Ranch.

After Alfred Stieglitz died in 1946, O'Keeffe spent increasing amounts of time in New Mexico. In 1949 she relocated there permanently, establishing the Southwest as both her home and the dominant setting of her later career.

The year is sometimes confused with 1917, the year of her first visit, or 1946, the year Stieglitz died. Those dates mark important transitions, but the permanent move itself occurred in 1949.
