Ford first used its familiar blue oval emblem on vehicles in 1927.
The oval had appeared in Ford-related branding earlier, but 1927 marks its important introduction as a formal badge on production vehicles. It was used on the redesigned Model A, which replaced the Model T. The emblem combined the Ford script with an oval border and a blue background, creating the visual identity that became strongly associated with the company.
The blue oval was not simply the original Ford logo from the company’s earliest years. Ford’s earliest marks used variations of ornate lettering and borders, and the design changed several times before settling into the recognizable badge. Later versions adjusted the shade, typography, and border, but retained the basic oval concept.
The 1927 date is often confused with the company’s founding in 1903 or with the Model T’s 1908 launch. Those milestones describe Ford’s corporate and product history, not the first use of the familiar blue oval vehicle emblem.
