In what year did C.S. Lewis die?

The story behind the answer

C.S. Lewis died in 1963.

Lewis died at his home, The Kilns, near Oxford on 22 November 1963, aged 64. The date is notable because it was also the day that U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, as well as the day writer Aldous Huxley died.

Lewis had experienced serious health problems in his later years, including a heart attack in 1963. Despite declining health, he continued writing and maintaining correspondence. His final years followed a long career as a literary scholar, Christian apologist, and author of fiction for adults and children.

The year 1963 is sometimes confused with the publication dates of his major works. The Chronicles of Narnia appeared mainly during the 1950s, while his influential Christian book Mere Christianity was published in 1952.
