In what year did Beyoncé join Destiny’s Child’s predecessor, Girl’s Tyme?

The story behind the answer

Beyoncé joined Girl’s Tyme in 1990, when she was about eight years old. The Houston-based group was formed by her father, Mathew Knowles, and became an early version of the act that would eventually be known as Destiny’s Child.

Girl’s Tyme competed on the television talent program Star Search in 1993. Although the group lost, the experience helped expose its members to professional performance and national audiences. The lineup changed several times during its development.

By the late 1990s, the group had been reshaped and signed to Columbia Records. Its name changed to Destiny’s Child, and the recording lineup eventually centered on Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams. Destiny’s Child became one of the best-selling female groups in music history.
