Doc Rivers played in the NBA All-Star Game in 1988.
Rivers earned his lone NBA All-Star selection as a point guard for the Atlanta Hawks. He had joined Atlanta after the Hawks selected him 31st overall in the second round of the 1983 NBA draft.
During the 1987–88 season, Rivers averaged 12.8 points and 10.0 assists per game, producing the first of his two career double-double seasons. He played alongside Atlanta star Dominique Wilkins during the team’s strong late-1980s period.
Rivers later became a successful coach, guiding the Boston Celtics to the 2008 NBA championship. His 2026 Hall of Fame recognition therefore covered both his playing and coaching contributions to professional basketball.
