Mark Few led Gonzaga to its first Final Four in 2017.
Gonzaga entered the 2017 NCAA tournament as a No. 1 seed after a dominant regular season. The Bulldogs defeated South Dakota State, Northwestern, West Virginia, and Xavier to win the West Regional and reach the Final Four for the first time in school history.
In the national semifinal, Gonzaga defeated South Carolina 77–73. The run continued the following season’s historic path to the NCAA championship game, where Gonzaga lost to North Carolina 71–65.
The 2017 team finished 37–2 and set a Gonzaga record for wins at the time. Few was recognized nationally that season, winning major coach-of-the-year honors from organizations including the Associated Press and the Naismith Awards.
