In what country are the Great Pyramids located?

The Great Pyramids are located in Egypt. They stand at the Giza pyramid complex near Cairo, on the western bank of the Nile River.

The complex includes the Great Pyramid of Giza, built for Pharaoh Khufu, along with the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure. These monuments were constructed during Egypt’s Old Kingdom as royal tombs and parts of larger funerary complexes.

The Great Pyramid was originally covered with smooth white limestone, much of which was later removed or fell away. It is the oldest and only largely intact survivor of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. A common mix-up is confusing Egypt with Mexico, which also has famous pyramids, such as the Pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacan. Those Mexican pyramids were built by different Mesoamerican civilizations and are not the Great Pyramids of Giza.
