In Wes Anderson’s The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, which actor plays Henry Sugar?

In Wes Anderson’s The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, Benedict Cumberbatch plays Henry Sugar.

The 2023 short film adapts Roald Dahl’s 1977 story about a wealthy man who learns a method for seeing through playing cards. Cumberbatch plays Henry, the central character who initially wants to exploit the trick for gambling.

The film is structured as a story being recounted and performed, a style Anderson also used in The French Dispatch and The Grand Budapest Hotel. Its cast includes Ralph Fiennes as Roald Dahl, Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley, and Richard Ayoade.

Cumberbatch’s role is sometimes confused with his other Anderson performances. He also voices Tiger in The Tiger’s Apprentice? No—that is not an Anderson film. In Anderson’s stop-motion adaptation of Fantastic Mr. Fox, Cumberbatch is not the voice of the title character; George Clooney plays Mr. Fox.
