In Watchmen, what superhero name does Jon Osterman adopt?

The story behind the answer

In Watchmen, Jon Osterman adopts the superhero name Doctor Manhattan.

Osterman is a physicist who is accidentally disintegrated during an experiment involving an intrinsic field subtractor. He later reconstructs his body and emerges with extraordinary abilities, including matter manipulation, teleportation, superhuman strength, and the capacity to perceive time in a non-linear way.

The name Doctor Manhattan connects him to the Manhattan Project, the United States program that developed the first atomic weapons. In the story, the character’s existence changes the balance of global power and contributes to an alternate history of the twentieth century.

Doctor Manhattan is not the same character as the Comedian, Ozymandias, or Nite Owl. Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons introduced him in the 1986–1987 DC Comics limited series Watchmen, adapted from characters originally associated with Charlton Comics.
