In WarGames: The Dead Code (2008), the teenage hacker’s first name is Will.
Will Farmer, played by Matt Lanter, is a teenager who discovers a computer game called R.I.P.L.E.Y. The game is connected to a military simulation system, and Will’s actions lead him into a situation where a computer program begins treating his activity as part of a real security threat. The plot echoes the first WarGames while using a different protagonist and technological setting.
The film is a sequel to the 1983 movie WarGames, but Matthew Broderick does not return as David Lightman. The original film centered on a teenager who accidentally accesses a military computer and nearly starts World War III. The sequel instead follows Will and his friend Annie.
Will Farmer is sometimes confused with David Lightman because both are young computer enthusiasts at the center of a military-computer crisis. The sequel was released directly to video in 2008.
