In WALL-E, the sleek reconnaissance robot sent to Earth by the Axiom is named EVE.
EVE stands for Extraterrestrial Vegetation Evaluator. Her mission is to search the abandoned planet for evidence that plant life has returned, a discovery that could indicate Earth is safe for humans to inhabit again. She is designed with a smooth white shell, blue visual display, and powerful scanning and weapons systems.
EVE initially treats WALL-E as an unusual local machine, but their relationship becomes the emotional centre of the film. WALL-E protects the plant she finds, and EVE eventually helps return it to the Axiom.
EVE is not the same machine as AUTO, the Axiom’s autopilot, or M-O, the small cleaning robot. Those robots have separate functions and designs within the spacecraft’s automated society.
