In Flight of the Navigator, the alien spacecraft’s artificial intelligence is named Max.
Max is the sentient computer intelligence aboard the advanced spacecraft that abducts David Freeman and later returns him to Earth. The ship can alter its appearance, travel at extraordinary speed, and communicate directly with David. Max initially speaks with a synthetic voice but eventually uses David’s copied voice after accessing information from the boy’s mind.
Flight of the Navigator was released in 1986 and directed by Randal Kleiser. The story begins in 1978, when David disappears and returns eight years later without aging. Scientists discover that his mind contains star charts and technical information connected to the spacecraft. The film combines family science fiction with time displacement and alien technology.
Max is sometimes confused with Trimaxion, the formal name of the spacecraft in some descriptions. David is the human protagonist, not the ship’s computer, and Puckmarin is unrelated to this film’s central artificial intelligence.
