In Toy Story (1995), Andy’s cowboy toy is named Woody.
Woody is a pull-string sheriff doll and the leader of Andy’s toys. His position changes when Buzz Lightyear, a space-themed action figure, arrives and believes he is a real space ranger. Their rivalry gradually becomes a friendship as they try to return to Andy.
Woody was voiced by Tom Hanks in the original film, while Tim Allen voiced Buzz Lightyear. The movie’s central conflict comes from the toys’ fear of being replaced, a theme that helps explain Woody’s jealousy and later growth.
Toy Story was the first feature-length film made entirely with computer-generated imagery. Pixar produced it for Walt Disney Pictures, and John Lasseter directed it. The film’s success helped establish computer animation as a major force in theatrical filmmaking.
