Lara Croft visits Venice in Tomb Raider II.
Venice is the setting for the game’s early levels, where Lara pursues information about the Dagger of Xian. The levels use canals, motorboats, bridges, courtyards, and historic buildings to create a distinctive urban environment before the adventure moves to other locations.
Tomb Raider II was released in 1997 as the sequel to the original Tomb Raider. Core Design developed it, and Eidos Interactive published it. Although the game visits several places, Venice is especially memorable because its water-based movement and boat sequences introduce a different style of exploration from the first game’s mostly isolated ruins. The Italian setting is fictionalized for action-game level design, so it should not be treated as a complete simulation of the real city.
