Japan provides the main setting for The Wolverine.
The 2013 film The Wolverine follows Logan after the events of X-Men: The Last Stand. Much of the story takes place in Japan, where Logan becomes involved with the Yashida family and confronts enemies connected to a wartime relationship. The setting allows the film to explore Logan outside the familiar X-Men mansion and American superhero locations.
Hugh Jackman returns as Wolverine, and the movie was directed by James Mangold. Important locations include Tokyo, Nagasaki, and the village of Yashida. The film draws inspiration from the 1982 Wolverine limited comic-book series by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller, although its plot differs substantially. The title can be confused with Logan, Mangold’s later Wolverine film, which is primarily set in the United States and Mexico.
