The main character in 'The Witcher' is Geralt of Rivia. He is a witcher: a magically enhanced monster hunter who travels across the Continent taking contracts to battle creatures and supernatural threats.

Geralt originated in the short stories and novels by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, long before the Netflix adaptation. His white hair and heightened abilities result from the dangerous mutations and training imposed on witchers. He is also known by nicknames including the White Wolf and the Butcher of Blaviken.

Triss Merigold and Yennefer of Vengerberg are important characters connected to Geralt, while Ciri becomes central to his story through destiny and their adoptive father-daughter relationship.
