Evan Davis presented the UK show Dragons' Den when it launched in 2005.
Davis is a British economist, journalist and broadcaster who hosted the first series of the programme. His role was to introduce entrepreneurs, provide context around the pitches and guide viewers through the negotiations in the den.
The presenter is not one of the investors. The dragons sit on the panel and assess proposals, while the host remains responsible for the programme’s narration and structure. This distinction can cause confusion because the presenter is closely associated with the show even though the business decisions belong to the investors.
Davis later became widely known for presenting BBC current-affairs and radio programmes, including Newsnight and The Today Programme. Dragons' Den itself continued with different presenting arrangements as the BBC series developed.
