Matthew Fox played Dr. Jack Shephard in the TV series Lost.
Jack is introduced as a spinal surgeon who wakes in the jungle after Oceanic Flight 815 crashes on a mysterious island. His medical training makes him an immediate leader because he can treat injuries, perform surgery, and organize the survivors during emergencies.
Fox’s performance anchors the ensemble cast through the show’s six seasons. Jack’s determination to rescue the survivors often puts him into conflict with characters such as John Locke, who believes the island has a deeper purpose. The series repeatedly explores Jack’s struggle between scientific reasoning, responsibility, and faith.
A common mix-up is confusing Fox with Terry O’Quinn, who played Locke, or Josh Holloway, who played Sawyer. Fox also starred in Party of Five before Lost and later appeared in films including Vantage Point and the Alex Cross adaptation.
