In The Terminator, what promise does the T-800 make about returning?

The story behind the answer

In The Terminator, the T-800 promises, “I'll be back.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger says the line as the cybernetic assassin after police officer Lt. Ed Traxler refuses to let him enter the police station. The T-800 then leaves, returns in a car, and crashes through the building’s entrance, turning a simple threat into a memorable action beat.

James Cameron directed The Terminator, released in 1984. Schwarzenegger plays the machine sent from the future to kill Sarah Connor, while Linda Hamilton plays Sarah and Michael Biehn plays Kyle Reese, her protector from the future.

The phrase became closely identified with Schwarzenegger and was reused in later Terminator films and many other performances. Its popularity comes from its brevity and the immediate payoff in the scene: the character does exactly what he says.
