Leonardo traditionally fights with two katanas in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise.
Leonardo is usually portrayed as the disciplined leader of the four brothers. His paired swords are commonly called katanas, although many adaptations describe them more generally as ninjatō or swords. The exact blade design and fighting style can vary between comics, television shows, films, and games, but the twin-sword association remains one of his most consistent traits.
The weapons help distinguish him from the other turtles: Raphael commonly uses sai, Donatello uses a bo staff, and Michelangelo uses nunchaku. Their weapons are part of the franchise’s visual identity and also reinforce the brothers’ different personalities. Leonardo’s blue mask is another recurring feature, though some early black-and-white comic artwork did not use the same color coding later popularized by the 1987 animated series.
