In the standard Greek myth of Pandora, which god sent Pandora to Epimetheus?

The story behind the answer

In the standard Greek myth of Pandora, Zeus sent Pandora to Epimetheus.

The episode is part of Zeus’s punishment of Prometheus after Prometheus stole fire and gave it to humanity. Zeus ordered the creation of Pandora, who was fashioned by Hephaestus and given qualities by several gods. He then sent her to Epimetheus, Prometheus’s brother.

Prometheus had warned Epimetheus not to accept gifts from Zeus, but Epimetheus accepted Pandora. In Hesiod’s account, Pandora’s arrival and the opening of her container explain why diseases, toil, and other troubles affect human beings. The myth therefore connects Pandora’s story with the conflict between Zeus and Prometheus.

Later versions often simplify the cast of gods or treat Zeus as merely the owner of the container. In the classical framework, however, Zeus is the divine authority who sends Pandora as part of the punishment, while Hephaestus is the craftsman who forms her.
