In the Pandora myth, what was Epimetheus to Prometheus?

The story behind the answer

In the Pandora myth, Epimetheus was Prometheus’s brother. Both are Titans in Greek mythology, and their names contrast their characteristic approaches: Prometheus means “forethought,” while Epimetheus is associated with “afterthought.”

Prometheus warned Epimetheus not to accept gifts from Zeus. Despite that warning, Epimetheus accepted Pandora when Zeus sent her among humans. Pandora’s opening of the sealed vessel then became linked with the release of suffering into the world.

The brothers appear in several ancient sources, not only the Pandora narrative. Prometheus is the more famous figure because of the fire-theft story, while Epimetheus is chiefly remembered for accepting Pandora and for the mythic contrast between planning ahead and regretting decisions afterward.
