In Pandora’s creation myth, which Greek god ordered the other gods to make her?

The story behind the answer

Zeus ordered the other gods to create Pandora in Hesiod’s myth. His command is presented as retaliation after Prometheus gave fire to humanity without Zeus’s permission.

The gods contribute different qualities: Hephaestus shapes Pandora from earth, Athena teaches her crafts, Aphrodite gives beauty, and Hermes supplies a deceptive, persuasive character. Zeus then sends her to Epimetheus, Prometheus’s brother. Although Prometheus warns Epimetheus not to accept gifts from Zeus, Epimetheus takes Pandora into his home.

The myth therefore makes Pandora part of a deliberate divine plan rather than an accidental discovery. Later retellings sometimes depict Zeus as merely owning the container, but Hesiod’s narrative specifically places the order for Pandora’s manufacture with Zeus, ruler of the Olympian gods.
