Kanto is the region containing the first eight Gyms and the Pokémon League in the original Pokémon games.
Pokémon Red, Green, and Blue are set primarily in Kanto, a fictional region inspired by Japan’s real-world Kantō region. The player travels between towns and cities, challenges Gym Leaders, and eventually faces the Elite Four and Champion.
Kanto introduced the original 151 Pokémon, including Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu, and Mewtwo. Its locations include Pallet Town, Viridian City, Pewter City, Cerulean City, and Saffron City.
Kanto is sometimes confused with Johto because the two regions are geographically connected in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. However, Johto is the setting introduced by the second generation, while Kanto is the original region.
