In the original Assassin's Creed game, Altaïr's first major assassination target is located in Damascus.
The target is Tamir, a wealthy arms dealer and a leading member of the Templar-aligned conspiracy. Altaïr investigates him in Damascus before carrying out the assassination in the city's market district. Damascus is one of three major cities that Altaïr visits during the game's main investigation structure, alongside Jerusalem and Acre.
Players sometimes confuse Damascus with Masyaf because Masyaf is the Assassin Brotherhood's headquarters and the place where Altaïr receives his missions. Masyaf is not the city where Tamir's assassination occurs. The game presents Damascus as a large, crowded urban environment inspired by the medieval Levant, with market areas, scholars, guards, and rooftop routes that support the series' parkour-focused exploration.
